Nearly fifty percent of Hong Kongers live in public estate housing. At the heart of most estates, large or small, is the estate centre. We examine the nearly 150 estate centres to highlight their public amenity and architecture. The study is timely. 50 years since the first estate centre in 1967, many of these civic buildings face neglect, clumsy alterations and demolition. Learn more about this unique Hong Kong civic building at our exhibition, Take a Seat.
The exhibit is located at Chun Shek Estate atrium. During a recent renovation, the atrium lost most of its public seating. Take a Seat is both exhibition and a piece of seating, reinstating the lost public amenity, if only momentarily.
Take a Seat has been extended and is now on until September 11, 2022
